The Story

Overview

Our Regenerative Organic Certified® Dandelion seeds from Gaia Herbs® grow into a hardy perennial with bright yellow flowers and deeply lobed leaves. Valued for centuries as a natural tonic, Dandelion supports digestion and liver health, and can be used in teas, salads, or other dishes. Rich in vitamins A, C, and K, all parts are edible, and its flowers and foliage attract pollinators, bringing life to your garden.

Conditions

Dandelion thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It is adaptable to a variety of soils and is very low-maintenance.

Planting

Plant seeds outdoors after last spring frost or 6 weeks before first fall frost. Plant 1 seed per inch, barely covered (they need some light to sprout). Thin to 4–6” apart in rows 12–18” apart.

Care

Once established, Dandelion is drought-tolerant and hardy. Minimal care is needed; occasional watering during dry spells and removing crowded plants will keep it thriving.

Pests and Disease

Dandelion is naturally resilient, with few pest or disease issues. Occasional aphids or fungal spots may appear, but good spacing, airflow, and organic treatments keep plants healthy — here’s a link to our favorite homemade insecticidal soap recipe for plants! Proper drainage and avoiding overwatering also help prevent root rot.

Harvest

Harvest leaves when young and tender for salads or teas. Flowers can be picked for culinary or medicinal uses, and roots can be harvested in fall for traditional herbal remedies.
